Power Petrol Guaranteed

£150.00

The Power Petroleum Company was a prominent independent British fuel distributor founded in London in 1923. Operating from offices on The Strand, the company established itself by importing affordable motor spirit from Russia. They initially sold fuel in traditional two-gallon cans before pioneering bulk distribution across the United Kingdom using dedicated road tankers.

The brand's rapid growth caught the attention of major industry conglomerates, leading to its acquisition by Shell-Mex and B.P. in 1934. Under this corporate umbrella, the distinct "Power" brand identity was deliberately preserved. They targeted price-conscious motorists and commercial fleets, eventually expanding into bulk industrial lubricants, agricultural diesel, and marine fuels.

The "Power Petrol Guaranteed" enamel sign dates to the 1920s or 1930s. The word "Guaranteed" was a vital marketing tactic used during the transition from cans to roadside pumps. Because early motorists deeply distrusted the new method of distribution.

Here we’ve taken an image of a worn enamel sign, digitally corrected it and reproduced it as a decorative reverse glass mirrored sign.
